This Forged In Aeternum Episode Focuses On The Languages Of New World
Learn the language of the land in New World.
This week's episode of Forged in Aeternum is quite interesting, taking a look at the languages of New World. The origins of these languages are a little more high-tech than you might expect.
Audio Director Jean-Edouard Miclot talks about the origins of the languages in New World, focusing on the Corrupted. While some companies spend the resources to have someone build languages from scratch, New World took advantage of software from Australia called "Vulgar Lang", which is capable of generating billions of languages. From there the team listened to many different generated languages and put them in a text-to-speech synthesizer until they found a language that both sounded right, but could also be spoken by voice actors.
Lore Master Aaron De Orive then jumps in and talks about finding the right sound for the pronunciation of the new language for Corrupted. Having someone come in and just read the lines as a normal speaker wasn't going to work, so they had to find a more guttural way to pronounce everything in a way that thematically fit with the Corrupted peoples of Aeternum.
They've even used their new languages to name some of their NPCs in the world, putting in something in English and letting the AI translate to the language of the Corrupted, Ancients, and Angry Earth.
