Way Of The Witcher Launches In Gwent, And We Have A New World Champ
As promised, CD Projekt Red dropped Gwent's Way of the Witcher expansion today. The sixth expansion for the Witcher-based card game, it focuses on the origins of the witchers and their creator, Alzur. It also adds 70 cards -- 60 faction-specific and 10 neutral, and, if that's not enough, it introduces new abilities and mechanics, including the Adrenaline mechanic that triggers when a player has a specific number (or less) of cards in their hand.
CDPR is celebrating the launch with special deals on kegs and other items, including unique ornaments like the Laboratory Border and a Cosimo avatar. Details on this are available in the game's store.
It's also worth noting that the new season started today and will run until January 12 at 10:00 CEST.
In additional Gwent news, a new World Champion was crowned this weekend. After taking on seven of the world's best players, Polish player Aleksander "ajabol" Owczarek came out on top, earning a tidy sum of $39,995 out of the $88,720 prize pool. The rest of the money was broken down between the other seven players with the next highest total being $18,940 for runner-up and the lowest $2,200 for one of the four players to leave the tournament in the quarterfinals. A full rundown of the tournament results is available on the Gwent site.
