Web3 Sci-Fi MMO “Influence” Launching On Starknet
NFT sales start today.
Sci-fi fans will soon have a new MMO to jump into, via the Starknet platform. Titled “Influence”, the Web3 MMO developed by Unstoppable Games will make use of the Ethereum blockchain and NFTs. In fact, NFT sales begin today. While players may have mixed feelings about all of that – Web3, blockchain, and NFTs – the game does seem to boast an interesting feature that MMO players haven’t seen anywhere else. Apparently, the creators can never turn it off. That may not seem to track, but the game is “fully decentralized”, which apparently means the players will be the ones to determine what happens with it. That’s not a bad idea for a game with NFTs involved, but we're still super skeptical.
If you’ve yet to hear about Influence, VentureBeat describes it as a “space strategy MMO where humanity dwells among the asteroids and factions battle for resources.” If you think that sounds a bit like Eve Online, that’ll be because Eve was one of the inspirations for it, according to Unstoppable Games CEO Chris Lexmond. The other influences are Amazon Prime’s sci-fi series "The Expanse" and the original books by James S.A. Corey (or, rather, Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck for whom Corey is a pen name).
