5 Handy Tips For Path Of Exile Keepers Of The Flame

The latest League for Grinding Gear Games' free-to-play action RPG, Path of Exile, Keepers of the Flame, launched recently. I've been told I'm not allowed back in the King's March tavern until I've offered up some tips, tricks, and otherwise useful intel. So let's get started.

Not long after you wash up on the shores of Wraeclast, you will find yourself face to face with Ailith First of the Keepers. She will warn of a shadowy realm and a looming threat. A brief conversation and a special handshake later, you are well on you're way to seemingly limitless power, or in my case, a quick death and the previous save point.

1. Don't skip the league mechanic.

Kind of obvious, I know. But sometimes you need to state the obvious.

Unlike some of the older leagues, Keeper of the Flame is pretty straightforward to get started in. While challenging, due to the sheer amount of these encounters in the campaign, even failing early like I did will still grant some rewards.

2. Make a path to tunnel monsters into narrow spaces for easy clean up.

Monsters spawn on the outer edges of the maze and rush towards the middle. Leaving walls up will make waves funnel to you.

3. Use power-ups as needed to heal Ailith or damage enemies.

The goal of Breach is to defend Ailith from waves of monsters with increasing difficulty. During the event, monsters will spawn and rush the center following whatever path you open to find Ailith. After every few waves, Ailith will spawn power-ups in little purple blips around the map. These spells grant everything from healing and shields to calling down fire or ice on enemies.

4. Experiment early and often.

This league has added some VERY potent items in the form of Foulborne items, new special enhancements to some already strong weapons and armor, with a rare chance for this to happen twice for some truly ridiculous power. So be flexible, and try as many combinations of new and old items as possible while leveling. Who knows when you will be the first to find something game-breaking?

5. Specialize your tree to fill gear gaps in weapons and armor.

The tree is the key.

Upon successful completion, you will be showered with all manner of goodies. Everything from armor and weapons and currencies to a new item called Womb Gifts and Graft Blood, a strange new item from a shattered realm.

Most importantly, Ailith will grant you access to the Genesis tree. When fed regularly, the tree will bathe you in truly powerful items in the form of Fleshgrafts and add literal thousands of possible skill combinations in addition to a handful of new skills made just for this league. So keep these tips in mind, get out there and feed the tree, and til the next one, may all your hits be crits.
