Vendetta Strengths and Weaknesses in Overwatch 2 — Counters and Best Team-Ups
How to make this gladiator strike true, or fall in the dust.

Vendetta is set to march into Overwatch 2, and as the first melee-focused damage hero in the hero shooter game, she is set to make a big impact. While there will be plenty of comparisons to the original DPS version of Doomfist, Vendetta is her own beast. Here are Vendetta's strengths and weaknesses, and the best counters and team-ups you should consider when she is playable.
Vendetta Strengths and Weaknesses

For the most part, Vendetta is purely a melee hero. While she has a single projectile she can fire while in her blocking stance, that is extremely limited and takes from her resources to block incoming damage. With all of that in mind, she wants to get up in the opposition's face so she can continually slash them with her sword.
Being melee-based, Vendetta is the only damage character that can constantly deal damage through shields and projectile fields like Defense Matrix and Kinetic Grasp. Combine her normal strikes with her Whirlwind Dash, and you can quickly cut foes down.
On the opposite side, if there is any distance between Vendetta and her opponent, she is at a disadvantage. Snipers and flying enemies that have her in their sights can deal damage to her with little to no threat from her, so using cover and utilizing flank routes is incredibly important for her.
Vendetta is a dive hero, similar to Tracer and Genji, but with even less range than those two. Her block can help her in a pinch, but it's definitely not something to rely on. Soaring Slice is your only escape plan, so if you're using it to engage, you'd better hope you can quickly take down whoever you're hunting.
Best Vendetta Counters
When it comes to counters in any given Overwatch 2 match, Vendetta does not want to deal with Pharah or Echo. Both can fly and get away from her sword slices, especially if Mercy is pocketing them. Bastion and Cassidy are also damage heroes she does not want to meet in a backline. Bastion in his turret form will tear her down quickly, while Cassidy can hinder her and bring the hammer on her down quickly. We already mentioned long-range characters like Widowmaker, Soldier: 76, and Ashe can also be problems, though if Vendetta can get close, that changes quickly.
On the support side, Vendetta and Zenyatta can have very back-and-forth battles. Discord Orb can tear her down quickly, but if she can get the jump on him, she is drastically in favor. Overall, she should have a decent time against supports unless Ana hits her with a sleep dart or Moira fades away and gets a little space.
With help, Vendetta can apply proper pressure against all tanks, but Roadhog is definitely a problem with his hook and Take A Breather, which will replace all of the health you take out. In a one-on-one, Reinhardt has too much of a health pool for Vendetta to out-melee him. In general, though, tanks are not who Vendetta should be picking a fight with on her own.
Best Teammates to Play with Vendetta

Of course, Vendetta is a dive character, and as has been seen over the years, Overwatch’s dive characters work particularly well when teamed up with other divers. The idea is to jump on the squishy members of the opposing team and remove them from play quickly, but to do that, Vendetta can not have the entire opposing team’s attention on her. With that in mind, Winston is probably the best tank to run alongside her. Though D.Va and Reinhardt can provide the same kind of pressure if they are willing to take the focus of the enemy team. Orisa, though much less than the previous mentions, could also be a good tool to get the heat off of Vendetta.
When it comes to damage heroes working alongside Vendetta, Genji and Venture are probably the top choices. Both can jump in and get out of fights quickly, but also have the ability to sustain just enough to help put in the damage to take out supports. Tracer would normally be in this conversation too, but her recent nerf has made her damage completely unreliable, so she will likely be jumping out of combat too quickly to be that helpful for Vendetta. If that change gets reverted, she would also be a good choice.
When playing support, you want reliable, consistent healing to help Vendetta stay in play. Nano boost on Vendetta sounds great, but if the healing shots from Ana aren’t hitting, you’ll run into many issues. With that in mind, Zenyatta can provide just enough healing, and his Discord Orb will help you take down targets faster. Lucio, Brigitte, Moira, and Wuyang can all enter fights alongside you and provide reasonable damage and healing if aimed at the same target.
Vendetta is a ruthless character who wants to jump into fights and take down enemies quickly. If the battle is being drawn out too much, you are going to be running into problems as her resources are spent, and she is left swinging her sword at the air.
