Warframe The Shadowgrapher

Earlier today, Warframe players reported receiving strange messages in the free-to-play shooter via squad invite. The messages – as you can see on this Reddit post – ranged from short, potentially offensive content to a lorem ipsum copy/paste, to story time. Several concerned players shared images of the messages they’d received on Reddit and Twitter, concerned that their own accounts may have been hacked.

Digital Extremes responded to players on both fronts almost immediately, letting them know they were aware of the issue and investigating, and advised that players not accept any weird invites but send the information over to support. A few hours after that, they made an official post apologizing to players for the “distress [the] issue may have caused”.

The post went on to state that “bad actors were able to interrupt and change squad invite text fields” to show those messages, but that “no accounts have been compromised nor data exposed”. They also assured players it was safe to continue playing the game and noted they’d issued a fix to help deal with the problem. As of 6:30 PM Eastern, direct game invites are disabled and will remain so until Shadowgrapher launches on March 25. Players can join squads with friends through the friends list.
