MechWarrior Online is on fire. No, we're not talking about how popular the game is -- it's literally on fire. or at least its data centers were last night.

Tuesday evening, word came down that the EU data centers in Strasbourg, France, were "having technical issues." Those issues turned out to be pretty serious, indeed:

Thankfully, nobody was injured in the fire, which saw "Entire buildings burnt to the ground" and affected a wide range of sites and services. According to a post on the MWO site, there's no timetable on when the servers will be brought back online. However, players were reassured that "your account [is] information safely located at another data center with backup and redundancy at secondary locations."

That's better news for MechWarrior Online than it is for Rust, whose EU servers were also located in the Strasbourg data center. Developer Facepunch Studios confirmed that 25 of its servers at the data center were affected, and it is "expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers." It called the disaster a "total loss" of data, but has at least managed to bring several servers back online -- at different locations, of course.
