Gamescom 2025: Wargaming Announces New Game In the World Of Tanks Lineup
Heat is set in an alternative post WWII reality.
We bet that you weren't expecting Wargaming to have two World of Tanks announcements for Gamescom. Well, here we are with the second. Which one is the bigger of the two probably depends on who you’re talking to. But they’re both pretty big.
This news is the announcement of a new game, World of Tanks: Heat. Heat, like the other WoT titles, is a tactical vehicle shooter. Set in an alternate post-WWII reality, the game has hero-shooter elements with players choosing to play as various agents with unique traits. Agents have signature vehicles, and some can even unlock more. They also all have unique ultimate abilities, like airstrikes.
We were offered a peek at the game, which has been in development for the past three years with a team of 200 people working on it. As you might expect from the whole alternate-reality thing, the game isn’t quite as realistic as the World of Tanks you’re used to. This allows them more freedom in designing the game. That said, they do estimate that it’s about 70% reality, 30% sci-fi.
The game is built around 10v10 battles and will be cross-play and cross-progression when it launches. It features a weapons progression system and tank (and eventually agent) customization. One feature that players will likely really appreciate is the armor viewer, which allows players to see the weak points in the vehicles. This can be useful not just for knowing what to defend against, but also gives players an idea of where to strike their enemies.
And yes, before you ask, the game will be free-to-play – or as they put it, “free-to-win”. Monetization will be built around battle passes, cosmetics, and time-savers.
