Horizon Multiplayer Alpha Footage Leaks Show Surprising Character Designs
If players were looking for hyper realism, they won’t find it here.
Guerrilla Games’ in-development Horizon multiplayer project just had screenshots and concept art leaked from a June 2020 dev build. Guerrilla Games has been working on expanding the Horizon universe for a while now following the launch of Forbidden West. The Amsterdam-based development studio published a tweet back in December looking for 36 developers to join multiple roles across their departments to work on Horizon projects. One of them being "a separate Online Project," which would feature "a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look." It seems these leaked images might be that separate online project.
Horizon’s world has always focused on its hyperrealism, so some people may be taken aback by this new art style that is cartoony and bulbous in design. Not that it’s bad, it’s just different. The leaked images were posted both on ResetEra and Reddit, the latter already deleted from the forum.
Still, it's important to note that these images came from 2020, and three years later may bring about a much different design.

But alas, I digress...as a Computer Animation graduate, someone who prof works with servers and cloud based apps, as well as hobbyist with game engines...I get it. The sheer expense (graphic load, game engine utliziation, etc) that a hyper-realism Horizon MMO would require is staggering. You want a lot of people with different hardware able to access your game. Its why WoW has been so successful, you dont need to upgrade to the cutting edge latest 3-4k gaming rig to play it. Horizon MMO will need to be as accessible as that as well.
