Well this doesn’t seem very fair. In what I could only assume was an honest mistake, Bigpoint seems to have released Merc Elite -their semi-futuristic military MOBA- into Open Beta in just the EU. Normally I’d say “keep it” as I’ve pretty much had my fill with new MOBAs, but Merc Elite was different, or at least promised to be different. I really don’t know seeing as I never got a chance to play it!

Ok, so that’s not entirely true. A beta key did find its way into my lap during the closed beta, but the pond between us is a vast expanse of water, and the rubber banding was great. Merc Elite differentiates itself from its primarily fantasy brethren by pitting teams of mercenaries paid for by evil corporations against each other for control over resources.

No minions or towers, instead Merc Elite relies on mechanics and game modes more commonly found in shooters. Things like increased protection behind cover, realistic line of sight which allows enemies to sneak up behind you, and higher ground advantage are all key components in Merc Elite. Come to think of it, besides the 5 unique classes -each possessing their own weapon types and moba abilities-, Merc Elite is much more of an isometric shooter.

It’s unclear whether those outside of the EU are prevented from signing up for the open beta. At this time Bigpoint has yet to announce any plans for Merc Elite in the US. From what was observed during closed beta, NA players will need servers in the US in order to play properly.

  1. In comparison EU to US the US gets many early releases and some games that EU cant get to play (Proxy) yes i know but not everyone is that desperate.Thou i am not into moba’s it makes me happy to know EU are getting some games before others.

  2. When a game is released in NA before EU that’s fine, but when the opposite happens “NOOOOOOOOOOOO THAT”S NOT FAIR!!!!!!!!!11111!!!!!111!! IT’S A HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!!!1111!!!!11”
no wonder people mock you ‘muricans over the internet.
Oh and BTW, I’m just generaly speaking here, not fanboying this yet another stupid moba.

  3. article poster, instead of whining like a bitch witch untreatable acne, install hotspot shield and get yourself an united kingdom proxy

  4. Oh please. EU rarely gets the good deals. And it sas announced sine fb that it is an Eu title only to start. Go cry over a legit ause like Aion EU or blade n soul

  5. Wow I have a game like this on my iPod Touch, don’t know what its called but its just like this but with zombies -_- there is a game like this on steam I think its called tactical strategy ( in free to play section )

    • Uh from the description provided this is not just a “moba”. Honestly close-minded people like you need to open up and see things differently.

      • We shall see what it is like when it hit’s the states. & I am not closed minded. Mobas just aren’t my cup of tea. They are all the same for the most part although I did like DC infinite crisis. I play many many different types of games & I hope some one, one day will make the best mmorpg to put all others to shame. Right now I am into THE SECRET WORLD.

    • If you think of “something like DotA or LoL” when you hear that this game is a MOBA, then you’re wrong. It’s more of a… errm… strategic 3-rd person (top-down view) shooter with cover-based combat and character-specific skills that is played on relatively small “arenas” where players fight over objectives. So, no lanes, no creeps and no towers.
