Aion 2 Stream

Today, in the wee hours of the morning, the NCSoft team shared details about the long-awaited sequel to Aion. As the Aion 2 stream was in Korean, we’re relying on a post by MagusSeven on the game’s subreddit for the translation. Among the more notable things from the stream was a comment from the lead developer who reportedly said that Aion 2 is “the complete version of Aion,” as there was stuff they’d like to have done during the production of the original Aion, the tech just wasn’t there. It’s kind of exciting to think that they’re trying to give players the MMORPG they really wanted to make before.

Aion 2 will take place 200 years after the original, with the Tower of Aion and the Daveas having fallen. The game will still feature the Elyos and Asmodian races. However, the Asmodians have been redesigned to avoid the “good vs. evil” scenario. I’m not sure what this will mean for us, Asmo players, but I’ll wait and see before stressing about it. Speaking of the two factions, the lead developer also explained that Elyos and Asmodians will reside on different servers, with race vs. race battles being done through matchmaking as well as via crossing dimensions to invade the other’s server.

As you might notice in the gameplay video below, mounts can fly in Aion 2. It turns out that players can also fly using their wings. That’s right, we’re not just going to be gliding anymore. This is likely partially due to the fact that the game world is reportedly 36 times bigger than in the original Aion.

At launch, the game will feature eight classes. Some of the original make a return, but others have been swapped out to fit more modern gameplay. Players can also expect quite a bit in the way of customization options for their character, being able to adjust more than 200 individual features.

During the stream, a Focus Group Test was announced for Korean players. Those wanting to sign up will need a South Korean number.
