Otherland Heads to Steam Early Access August 26th
Drago Entertainment has quietly been working on the Tad Williams novels inspired MMORPG, Otherland for quite some time. As we've reported over the past few months, the project has been moved around from company to company and many thought it would never see the light of day.
Having played the game a few months ago to try and do a First Look video, I can tell you that back then the game was just not ready for public access. To say the game worked wouldn't have been very accurate. We've held off on a First Look since then. Hopefully, with today's announcement, that First Look won't be far away now.
Drago Entertainment will be releasing a Steam client version of Otherland on August 26th in an Early Access state. While the game will be free to play, Early Access will not. Pricing still has yet to be announced but here's Drago Entertainment's response to that question.
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
“The current pricing is aimed at players who are willing to support us and are ready to invest into great content and the creation thereof. Instead of an item shop - as originally planned - we will offer DLC that includes new content but is optional to buy. No Pay2Win! As for the pricing and business model after the official launch, this has not been decided yet and may differ between territories. Early Access Players’ benefits will however last throughout game phases.”
When pricing is announced for Early Access we'll be sure to update this article for your information. In the meantime, you can check out Otherland information on Steam here.

Oooohh..no..no, no guys..you don't wanna do that..DCUO did that and it ends up being one of the largest reasons F2P players don't last long there (escrow and subscriber advantages aside).
Shoulda just stuck with the item shop..people hate being gated off from content more than a typical convenience/cosmetic shop methinks..
