We seem to be well past the era when anyone and everyone was putting out a MOBA and trying to capture a piece of that League of Legends or Dota 2 pie. That’s why today’s (technically last week’s) news of Genesis, a new free-to-play MOBA from Chinese developer Rampage Games for the PlayStation 4, comes as a bit of a surprise.
The flashy reveal video below shows off the characters and a bit of gameplay, while the longer gameplay video gives you a look at a typical match. All the usual MOBA elements are present: lanes, towers, minions, an item shop, a four-ability hotbar, and so on.
So what makes Genesis stand out? As mentioned, it’s only on the PS4, and Rampage Games touts joystick controls as a benefit of that. More unusually, there’s also a PvE campaign mode, “filled with epic story telling” that utilizes quick-time events and increasing difficulty levels that will require “a solid team and good hero control” to win the day — and the loot.
You can learn more about Genesis on its official site, where you can also pre-register and receive a Hero Trial Card Bundle and 200 Genesis Credit, which we’d assume to be real-money currency. Genesis will launch in mid-August.
not a moba fan but this looks like fun
