April 1st is tomorrow and that means game developers are about to partake in the age old tradition of spoofing their own titles with ridiculous nonsense that will clearly never actually see the light of day, or will it? The uncertainty stems in part from Cryptic Studios latest revelation, a plan to add an actual tabletop experience within Neverwinter, the very MMO inspired by a tabletop. Very meta, and very possibly a hoax, or not.

The premise is simple, starting tomorrow April 1st through April 4th, players will be able to embark on a journey across a table utilizing mini-me versions of your very own character within Neverwinter. Cryptic appears to have an eye for detail as the miniatures come with their own bases, while the maps (of which there are two) made of grid paper and cardboard dividers sets the stage for the adventure at hand. There’s even appropriate snacks on hand with Lathander’s Dew and the sweet chewy Neverwintan Red Veins.

Accompanying players on their mini-expedition are a few of Neverwinter’s well known heroes players encounter across the realm with the mischievous mage Respen Durothil serving as Dungeon Master. Unfortunately this probably means co-operative play with real players isn’t in the cards or should I say, dice.

There’s even talks of rewards being handed out in the form of a friendly Green Slime Companion and a stat-boosting pet.

  1. Having played this event extensively, it’s neat but ultimately it’s tabletop only in appearance. In the end it ends up rushed like any other dungeon. Fun at first but ultimately disappointing, though the slime companion is amusing if nothing else.

  2. Where is the horse and the rider?
Where is the horn that was blowing?
They have passed like rain on the mountains,
    like wind in the meadow.
The days have gone down in the West,
    behind the hills… into Shadow.

    ~Theoden 2002

    • Oh they have Mountain Dew. Well..”Lathander’s Dew”. Apparently ‘collected in various depressions in the rocks of the eastern face of the Sword Mountains and filtered through strange rocks. It is given an odd yellowish color by trace minerals.’

Also they’ve got Lliira’s Fare (aka Doritos) and Neverwintan Red Veins (aka Twizzlers). So bad, yet so good.
