Warframe Fans Can Grab The Precursor Title "Dark Sector" Free On Steam, But You Only Have 3 Days To Claim It
It's a neat walk down memory lane checking out where some Warframe features started.
Obviously Warframe is the flagship title in the Digital Extremes library. The looter-shooter's mass success and continued appeal is impossible to deny. As Warframe: 1999 inches closer, the game just continues to try new things (some that don't always work out) and is still on my personal list of F2P games just done right.
Given Warframe has been around since 2013, you'd be forgiven if you didn't remember that the Digital Extremes team has titles that predate Warframe. One of those games, Dark Sector, is seen by the team as the precursor to the now-popular shooter. Many ideas that eventually found their way into Warframe started in the 3rd-person shooter that launched in 2008 (2009 Steam release).
Following the story of Hayden Tenno (name sounds a bit familiar), Dark Sector sees its hero attacked and infected with the TechnoCyte Virus and, instead of dying like others have, Tenno is given amazing powers they'll need to uncover many sci-fi secrets in a post Cold War setting.
The game isn't expensive these days, usually coming in around $10 on Steam. However, as part of the team's Black Friday offerings, you can grab Dark Sector on Steam for free right now. If you're curious about the origins of some of Warframe's features and want to hit up a game that still inspires Warframe to this day, claim the game now.
You have until November 30th to do so.
