The ball is officially rolling! Carbine Studios has announced that the free to play version of their MMORPG, WildStar, went live for closed beta testing today. Current subscribers of the game can access the closed beta right away and anyone that’s received a key can also access the closed beta.

If you want to sign up for beta, head on over to the free to play site here.

“We can’t wait to have players get into beta and check out all the new content,” said Mike Donatelli, product director, Carbine Studios. “Inviting players to test all these systems is key to our success. We’re looking to them to provide critical feedback that will enable us to launch free-to-play this fall.”

The free to play version of WildStar will also contain a number of other additional items including:

  • The Alpha Sanctum – A new instance that brings players into WildStar’s world storyline much earlier in the game than ever before. Featuring creative gameplay, a unique environment, and a compelling narrative, the Alpha Sanctum introduces players to the mysteries of Nexus in an unforgettable way.
  • Madame Fay’s Fortunes – Discover all-new treasures with Madame Fay’s Fortunes, an exciting, randomized reward system that can turn a tiny investment into big, big shinies with the help of everyone’s favorite Lopp fortune-teller, Madame Fay.
  • New Player Experience – A revamped Arkship and arrival sequence welcomes newcomers to WildStar and offers everyone the option of choosing where to start their Nexus adventure based on their level of MMO experience. Character creation has also been overhauled, giving players a better understanding of the choices they’re making and the customization options available.
  • Loyalty Program – Any player who has ever invested money in WildStar by subscribing to the game, redeeming C.R.E.D.D., or purchasing MTX items will now earn points in the game’s Loyalty Program. These reward points, which are also earned retroactively, give players access to additional gear, items, pets, mounts and more.
  • Quality-of-Life – A multitude of quality-of-life improvements have been added, including a revamped sprint function, navpoints to help players keep track of their next objective, daily player login rewards, and much more.
  • Now we just need a release date for free to play!

    1. MMO games are corrupted to the ground by the player with hacker and other thing behind the dark cold wall even the developer too. it just dead in the water mostly.

    2. I just picked up a disk copy from the wal mart and best buy by me. They were 10 each and you get stuff also , I picked up a few so not I have like 6 months or more now of game time. Got the idea from Magicman when he said that on the show.

    3. another big fail from another big company. burn them all! another scheme to try to make free to play players (the ones without money) to spend money in the game. this strategies are getting old and ridiculous. they now announce free to play like they were mother teresa. from now on real cash economy or nothing! if they want players, buy them!

      • Hosting an MMO costs a lot of money, so where exactly is that money supposed to come from if not from Micro-transactions?

Would you prefer they made 99% of all MMO’s P2P instead?

Yes I agree that very often the Micro_Transaction system leads to a pay to win situation within the game it is in, but in this time of nothing is TRULY FREE it is to be expected that a F2P MMO must get income from some place to keep it’s self alive & hosted.

Would you prefer the game was full of advertising?

People need to remember that HOSTING an MMO comes with plenty of money sinks & those sinks ALWAYS need feeding.
If you don’t like the Micro-Transaction/Cash Shop system then don’t use it or play something else.

        • there is a fine line between needing money for a game and being a crooked company that knows their game sucks, but just don’t care.

    4. I would like to be apart of beta but why are they doing this again? The game had another beta why does it need to go through it again?

Anyone has a spare code for me?

      • I dunno what Carbine is talking about, it says that Existing players that already have been purchased the game will be able to play the beta for free WTF, but they didn’t say anything about new players other than to sign in and wait, wait for what!, i’ve already made my acc and played the 10 days trial, so i think i just should be able to enter the game by now, but my account still “lapsed” so yeah. Gonna have to wait a lot more
