Limit Zero Breakers Preview

It’s been a couple of weeks since NCSoft opened signups for Limit Zero Breakers’ ‘Prologue Test’. While there’s still almost two weeks until the test kicks off on June 10, the devs wanted to offer would-be players some insight into what they can expect from the test period.

As we all know, Limit Zero Breakers is an anime-style game. Specifically, it’s a real-time action game with team-based fighting mechanics. Overall, it’s something fans of modern anime games should be fairly familiar with by now. Players put together parties of 3 Breakers, each with their own skills, weapons, and elemental alignments. Building a solid team will require an understanding of the game’s element system, as the elements work together and apply debuffs based on the order they are used in.

Each breaker has a basic left-click attack, a right-click dodge, and a skill that requires energy to use. They also have a Break gauge. As it fills, it will stun enemies and increase damage. Of course, I’m describing the PC setup, but the game is available on mobile devices, and it does have cross-play.

Activity-wise, the game has plenty for the player to do outside of the story. These include monster hunting and multiplayer boss raids. Don’t go thinking MMO-style raids. These are designed for one to three players. Also note that each player can only bring one character. The game also features crafting and synthesis to allow players to build armor and weapons, as well as keep track of it all.

As for the narrative. Limit Zero Breakers takes place in the world of Seraphia, where all the major locations are floating islands. It’s an “authentic anime-inspired shonen experience” in which players take on the role of Kaito, a destruction-class fire breaker. Yes, he does have amnesia and is pretty friendly. He also comes with the ability to pick locks. No idea how he remembers how to do that with the amnesia and all, but considering most amnesiac protagonists know how to fight right out of the gate, it’s not that weird.

To explore the world of Seraphia, Kaito ends up throwing his lot in with the captain and crew of the “Weaver Whale”. This hub area is a vessel that can take players from island to island. It’s also where players will interact with their allies, both playable and unplayable. Think of it as something similar to the Dijiang in Arknights: Endfield. Before you ask, no, there are no housing features. At least. Not yet.

That said, the Weaver Whale does have features that make it worth returning to, including the sub-story system, where players will be able to pick up side quests. Even more exciting is the “Weaver Lance”. This allows players to call down an aerial lance strike during combat. Upon impact, the lance stuns and does massive damage to the enemies on the field.

At the end of the preview, we were allowed to ask a few questions. The topic of AI came up, and we were told that there would be no generative AI in the test. However, it was used in the early stages of development to conceptualize. Now, the characters players will see have all been hand-drawn.

If you’re a PvP fan, I’m sorry to report that we were told that there is no PvP in the game as of now.

Finally, I asked what the game’s update schedule would look like and if players should figure on the six-week rotation that most gacha games seem to go with, as well as what the ratio of male-to-female characters would look like. On both, we were mostly told that there’s no answer for that yet. With the character ratio, we were informed that it would be a healthy mix. But, it seemed they were talking more about race varieties, skills, and the like.

As noted above, Limit Zero Breakers’ Prologue Test will kick off on June 10. It will run for five days, ending on June 15. If you’d like to participate, sign up via your mobile device or on Steam.
