Amazon Games Lays Off About 100 Employees, Contributing To The Thousands Already This Year Amazon Wide
"But we are committed to treating our impacted employees with empathy and respect."
More layoffs? More layoffs.
Amazon Games is laying off around 100 employees from its Game Growth group, the gaming studio in San Diego, and Prime Gaming. This news comes from a memo to staffers yesterday by the company’s vice president Christoph Hartmann.
“There is never a pleasant way to share this sort of news, but we are committed to treating our impacted employees with empathy and respect, and will support them by offering them severance pay, health insurance benefits, outplacement services, and paid time to conduct their job search,” he said.
The employees were told that they were being laid off one-by-one through meetings with human resources. A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed the layoffs to CNBC and the existence of the memo, but declined further comment.
Recently, Amazon laid off 9,000 employees, and just this past January, 18,000 others were cut. Andy Jassy, the new CEO, is now in charge after former head and Twitch co-founder Emmett Shear resigned on March 16.
Also, Mike Frazzini, who helped launch Amazon Games, stepped down last March. And last January, former head of the San Diego gaming studio John Smedley left the company.
Yeah, there's been a lot of departures lately.
