If you’ve been hearing rumors that Battlefield 6 is getting a free-to-play battle royale mode, you’ve heard right. As it turns out, when the season one update drops in the shooter tomorrow (Tuesday, October 28), it will be accompanied by the introduction of the Battle Royale mode. Otherwise known as RedSec, the new battle royale mode will be free-to-play, according to the teaser on the Battlefield Twitter account. This means players don't have to buy Battlefield 6 to play it. The mode will launch at 8:00 am Pacific time.

The mode has been in testing for a bit, and according to a post on the Battlefield 6 Steam page, several changes based on player feedback have been made. Of course, those not involved in the testing won’t notice the difference, but those who have been will note a few key changes. Using player feedback, the devs have adjusted the time-to-kill at close range for all weapons based on positioning and tracking. At the same time, players have more time to counter attack.

Armor has been improved, now offering the capacity for 2 armor plates starting out. Although, players will spawn with a single plate, so they’ll need to upgrade as soon as possible. Bugs have been fixed, and optimizations have been implemented. In addition, helicopters and combat vehicles have been re-balanced to make them powerful but not something players should have to rely on in order to successfully compete in late game.
