Eve Online Prospectors Pack Pulled

We all know how the story goes by now. Video game company sees a potential problem that players might like to have solved. The same video game company finds a way to address the issue while making money off of it. (It’s a win-win. Right?) Existing players of the game in question take issue with the entire thing and raise hell until the company backtracks...sort of.

Such is the case with the latest bit of news to come out of the Eve Online camp. Last week, just nine days after dropping the Prospector’s Path update and the titular pack intended to help new players out by giving them a way to catch up with existing players at a price, CCP decided to remove the pack. The pack was in line with the updated Mining NPE, so, with mining being a big part of the game, it’s not surprising that existing players took issue with it. So much so, that discussion went on for nine days in the Eve Online forums, with at least some of the players taking issue with new players being able to just buy their way ahead in-game with a fully fitted mining ship.

Whether or not you think that’s what’s happening with the pack in question, the one thing we know is that player concern was enough to make CCP remove it, for now. As noted in a recent update, the company is developing a way for these packs to be created and supplied to new players by existing players in the game. This will allow players to determine what kind of ships are put into the packs new players are purchasing. Of course, the CSM will be directly involved in the process.

So for now, the packs are no longer being offered, but expect to see them back once this new system is in place.
