Dauntless "Awakening" Launches Next Week And So Does The Steam Version Of The Monster Hunting Game
Yes, the Steam version will allow cross play and cross progression.
Dauntless "Awakening", a patch that Phoenix Labs calls the game's "largest ever", attempts to revamp the monster-hunting game yet again. I've already talked about my concerns with their new direction. Feature-wise, sure, it's fine. The ability to swap weapons is a feature that should have been there years ago, but at least it's finally coming. A new behemoth is always welcome, and a revamp of the game's progression systems could be better than the hodge-podge of systems I remember.
That's all great stuff, and there's plenty more.
What I'm concerned about is the monetization direction the game is taking now that Phoenix Labs seems to be owned by a blockchain company. In a time when most games are finding ways to remove loot boxes due to legislation overseas, Dauntless is actually adding them, among other questionable financial decisions.
Either way, the new update is coming next week with Awakening launching on Thursday December 5th. Thursday will also see the release of the Steam version of the game which, yes, will include cross play and cross progression.
Will you be giving Dauntless another shot or returning after a long break? Let me know what brought you back.
The update's new trailer is below and it does look great. Funny note here: It has been over a year between this trailer and the next most recent video published to the Dauntless YouTube channel.
