E3 Dead

E3 2023 was supposed to be the big post-COVID relaunch of what used to be the biggest event in video games, but during the pandemic most large video game companies figured out they could do E3-type things on their own, and there was no interest in taking part in E3 2023. The event was cancelled yet again and E3 looked deader than ever.

Fast forward to today, where PCGamer is reporting that Reedpop, the ESA's events organizing partner, and E3 have parted ways. Both sides claim that the breakup is mutual. Reedpop president Kyle Masden-Kirsh said "resourcing challenges" and a lack of interest from industry attendees kept E3 2023 from happening. Now E3 looks even more dead than before. But don't tell the ESA that.

The ESA still claims to have big plans for a relaunch and rebrand of E3 in 2025. The event will not take place in the Los Angeles Convention Center like past events, though. What form this rebrand will take, and how they will pull it off with zero interest from industry attendees remains to be seen. Quite frankly, I'll believe it when I see it. We'll of course cover the cancellation of E3 2025 when it happens.
