Epic Games Is Going To Have To Use Its Sweden Developer Account To Get Fortnite Back On The App Store
Epic’s original account was terminated a while back.
Last week, news broke that following a new court order enforcing the injunction preventing “anticompetitive acts” by Apple on the iOS App Store, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney announced Fortnite would be returning to the US store this week. He did not, however, specify a day.
As it turns out, that’s partially due to the fact that Epic was in discussions with Apple regarding the process. Epic’s original App Store account was terminated by Apple in 2020 when Epic put in its own in-app payment system. Since then, iOS players have been without the F2P battle-royale, and Apple and Epic have been trading legal and verbal barbs.
Now that Apple has no choice (for the moment, as they are appealing the ruling), Epic is working to return the game to the store and has been talking with Apple. According to Sweeny, the results of that conversation are that Epic will be using the Epic Games Sweden account to submit the game to the US App Store. The Sweden account was created last year to put the game back on the EU store. The plan is still to have the game up this week. But, what day will probably depend on how quickly Apple is with the approval process.
