Fortnite Returning To iOS

Here’s some good news for Fortnite fans. The F2P battle-royale is returning to Apple’s iOS store.

According to a report in Variety, who reviewed documents from a District Court in California, a judge has determined that Apple violated the 2021 court order issued in the Epic Games vs. Apple lawsuit with “continued attempts to interfere with competition”. The document listed both “anticompetitive pricing” and “anticompetitive conduct” as part of that interference.

The documents, issued by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, went on to state, “This is an injunction, not a negotiation. There are no do-overs once a party willfully disregards a court order.” The filing prevents Apple from any further “anticompetitive acts” and states that Apple VP of Finance, Alex Roman, “outright lied” to the court.

Apple, for its part, “strongly disagrees with the decision”. A statement issued by a spokesperson goes on to note that the company will comply with the order but will be appealing.

Epic Games Founder Tim Sweeney responded to the order on Twitter, stating that Fortnite will return to the US iOS App Store next week. Noting that there are still issues to address internationally, he issued a “peace proposal” stating, “If Apple extends the court’s friction-free, Apple-tax-free framework worldwide, [Epic] will return Fortnite to the App Store worldwide and drop current and future litigation on the topic.”
