Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure is launching on August 22nd and with it comes some frightening new enemies known as the Kryptis (pictured above). The Kryptis are invading the MMORPG through Rifts across Tyria. The story behind the Kryptis and their invasion will have to be discovered in-game, but just know they are mean and meaty and coming for our world.
The Rifts they pour out of will be part of a new gameplay loop for Guild Wars 2, as players hunt down and close these Rifts across Tyria. During the Secrets of the Obscure storyline, players will acquire an item known as Heart of the Obscure, which they can use to fully open Rifts and take on the Kryptis that dwell within.
The enemies coming out of these Rifts scale with the number of players fighting them, making them prime targets for both solo and group play. In a future update, you'll be able to take on even larger Rifts designed for larger groups of players.
ArenaNet has promised to share more cool stuff coming with Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure next week, so we'll keep you updated with what they reveal next while you read up on the Kryptis!
