RuneScape Treasure Hunter Removal

Two weeks ago, Jagex asked players to vote on the fate of transactions in RuneScape. Specifically, they were looking for input on Treasure Hunter microtransactions, stating that if more than 100,000 of the free-to-play MMORPG’s players voted yes, they would be removed. Today, the developer revealed that over 120,000 players voted for the microtransactions removal.

If you’re wondering how many people voted to keep them, the voting system didn’t work that way. You could either vote “yes” or not vote. The goal was to meet a specific metric.

With the votes in, Treasure Hunter’s fate has been decided, and Jagex is planning on officially discontinuing it on January 19. At the same time, 225 Direct XP and Skilling items will be taken off the game’s store. The company will remove any “items that disrupt core gameplay and the player economy” while the company “invest[s] heavily in a year-long Integrity Roadmap”, dealing with things like improving the UI, combat, and more.

On January 19, Jagex will provide players with more information about the changes during a special RuneScape ahead on YouTube.
