New World Favorite Zones

Ever since video games began taking place in worlds with different types of areas, people have had favorite zones – or zones we really hated to see. Remember all the ice zones in 2D side scrollers? Murder. In a video game space filled with MMOs and open-world games built of many, many different zones, players definitely have opinions on where they like to be when in game. You hate one city because it’s sprawling and confusing. You prefer the forest to the desert (or the desert to the forest). Perhaps you like the sound of the rain in one zone and hate looking at the snow in another. The point is that in your game of choice, there’s something that appeals to you.

But, what about game developers? Those people spend a lot of time staring at different zones as they build their games. What are their favorite zones? Do they have any? Or are they just kind of sick of looking at them? It seems someone decided to ask the New World team this and the question became the focus of the latest Forged in Aeternum video. New World Game Director Scot Lane spends a little over seven minutes talking to Art Director Charles Bradbury and Live Lead/Senior Producer Katy Kaszynski to get their opinions on their favorite zones.

The video also delves into things like which zone offers Scottish Highland vibes and which is “like a rave with monsters”. The full video is available to watch below. As we said, it’s pretty short. You don’t even need to worry about getting the snacks out for this one.

If you want to hop into New World, a free play event is getting ready to kick off on the 15th.
