Nosgoth Announces Closed Beta Competitions
It's always good for a game to get an early start on building its e-sports audience. But offering three-digit sums while you're still in closed beta? Maybe you oughta hold off a bit there, Tex.
Regardless, that's the route Square Enix is taking with Nosgoth, when the ESL Nosgoth Beta Cup Series starts on Nov. 9. There will be weekly and monthly competitions in both the NA and European theaters, offering the princely sum of €200/$200 to the top teams. The eight teams with the most points at the end of each month will be eligible to square off for prizes of €500/$500.
In other words, don't quit your day job to become a Nosgoth pro just yet. It makes sense to start small, I suppose, but I almost wonder if, with as big as the prize pools are with other e-sports competitions, they'd be better off offering no money at this time and just promoting the thrill of competition. And maybe a cool trophy... e-trophy... thing.
