Open World Sandbox Creation Game "Airland World" Says It's Roblox For Adults
Explore, create, and play in an Unreal 5 sandbox world.
Slated for early access later this year before a free-to-play launch in 2024, Airland World is looking to empower modders and would-be game creators with an open-world sandbox creation game platform.
Airland World offers creation tools built using LUAU or C++ scripting, features realistically simulated vehicles, and traversal options such as swimming and skydiving. The game has weapon options and a selection of game modes including casual, realistic, or ultra-realistic. It's up to you how many players compete or cooperate in your world.
Offering a fully procedural, AI-generated replica of planet Earth with the help of WildRealm Inc., Airland World seeks to create an immersive world for you to explore and create in. Players will be able to share their creations with others and even monetize their creations if they so choose.
“As an experienced modder, it’s important to me that my fellow creators are seen, heard, and offered the tools that they need to showcase their talent,” said Fred Naar, CEO of Airland Studios. “I also feel passionately that creators are given the opportunity to make money from their work, as they are so often restricted from doing so despite how much they contribute to communities and games.”
Those are pretty ambitious claims and while all companies have to start somewhere, it's weird to see these types of claims from a potential service that doesn't even have an official website yet. Instead, the minimal information available directs you to a YouTube page where the "About Us" says the team specializes in realistic vehicles for games and simulations or to a Facebook page created a day ago that as of this writing has exactly 1 follower and an address that seems to just be someone's residence. Certainly one can work from home and create big things, no doubt, but again, all of this seems to be coming out of nowhere.
Fred certainly has chops as a modder, but can he and whatever team he creates build what they want to build?
We'll hold back on judgements for now, but this is one claim that we advise you to wait and see what early access has to offer before getting your hopes up too much right now. Small teams can certainly accomplish a lot, but verify before trusting.
