Over A Decade After It’s Launch In Japan, Granblue Fantasy Is Going Global
But is it too late?

Global game launches can be a little weird sometimes. A game that players are incredibly interested in can launch in another country, and the players will (mostly) patiently wait for the game to make it to them. Sometimes they will wait years. Sometimes they will be rewarded for being patient. Sometimes they won’t. It all depends.
That said, once some of these games make their way to the players in question, they may have moved on to something else, thinking that the game in question will never be available in their region. Such was likely the case with Cygames’ Granblue Fantasy, which launched in Japan on mobile devices and browsers back in 2014. The free-to-play RPG has spun out a lot of other games in the same IP since then, but the original has yet to launch officially in the West.
It’s on its way, though. During the recent Granblue Fantasy Fes 2025 stream held yesterday (December 28), the developer announced plans for an updated Steam version. The good news is that the game itself has been localized with English for a long while now. It just wasn’t directly available in a way that made it easy for everyone to access. On March 10, 2026, that will be fixed with the game’s launch on Steam. According to a report on Automaton Media, there is one catch to this. While the game will be available on Steam, it won’t be for players in Japan. That probably doesn’t matter too much, however, as the players have been playing on the current platforms for years.
