Scenario Explores Outer Gondor In Second Preview Of The Lord Of The Rings Online's Corsairs of Umbar
Spoiler alert: it's very green.
Here’s what happened during Scenario’s second preview of the landscapes of Corsairs of Umbar in The Lord of the Rings Online.
He gave a detailed exploration of the MMORPG's Outer Gondor's landscape, showcasing the environment and atmosphere of this region. Furukzaharare was also highlighted, being open and accessible for players to tour. Scenario explained that while assets like trees, rocks, and buildings may not be entirely new, the team creatively combined them to give the environment a fresh and unique look.
Easter Eggs were mentioned too, including an angry fisherman and a hungry dog — for charm and personality purposes. The idea of having wandering people for aesthetic purposes rather than traveling merchants was discussed. And the lift at Lond Cirion that allows players to move up and down was demonstrated, although it was noted that it's not as complex as the Deepscrave lift.
He talked about using storm clouds over the water as a clever way to hide potentially visible landscape as well, and mentioned that the western region of Andrast remains inaccessible. Also, Scenario discussed the impact of environmental factors like wind on trees and the importance of not adding too many polygons to assets for smoothness when they are frequently used.
