Second Life, which launched in June 2003, was one of the first online virtual worlds to hit the mainstream. In 2013, about 1 million people were regularly playing the game (although developer Linden Lab does not prefer to refer to it as such). Fast forward to the present day, Second Life is going mobile.

Linden Lab confirmed this launch with a first look video showing how the “social game” will appear on tablets and smartphones. The team brought up how this venture required previous attempts but that enough time and effort went in to ensure Second Life Mobile functioned properly. Also, it was built on the Unity engine.

There’s more good news too: player data and information will carry over. Linden Lab even advised that “pretty much anything” in Second Life will be possible in its mobile version, but with the freedom of not “being tethered to your computer." Those interested should keep an eye out for the beta which will be available later this year.
