The Elder Scrolls Online Team Explains What Players Need To Know About Tales Of Tribute
That's the new deck-building card game coming in the High Isle expansion.
Among the many things being added to The Elder Scrolls Online in June's High Isle update is the new in-game card game, Tales of Tribute. The game is designed to be easy to get started with but, for those who want to be very successful at it, it's going to take a bit of work. And, it probably doesn't hurt if you know what's what ahead of time. It's probably a good thing that the ESO team dropped a new blog post explaining the most important things to get players off on the right foot.
Tales of Tribute revolves around a specific type of deck known as "Patron Decks". There are eight of these with four being able to be unlocked immediately after completing the tutorial. The others will be obtained from quests and achievements related to Tales of Tribute as well as random drops.
Players select two patrons to start a match with, for each patron a player will have 20 cards. So, between the two players, there will be a total of 80 patron cards, which will be shuffled into the tavern with 20 neutral cards. Yup. That’s 100 cards. It's the tavern that players will pull from during gameplay. The patrons themselves can be activated during a match, providing players with special boons. Of course, this will be at a cost, of some sort.
The game has two win mechanics. The first is to collect 40 or more Prestige which is earned via card or patron abilities. This method also requires players to maintain that lead through the opponent’s next turn. Basically, there’s a chance for the other side to make a comeback. The second method is to gain the favor of all four patrons by the end of your turn. This is an automatic win.
Of course, there’s more to the game than this. In fact, the post mentions cards known as Agents, combo cards, contract cards, and more. All of these impact the game in different ways. If you're interested in all those nitty-gritty details, do check the post on the Elder Scrolls Online site.
