Destiny 2 Apollo Reveal

Bungie has released additional information about The Edge of Fate, the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion launching on July 15.

This update for the free-to-play shooter begins both the Year of Prophecy and a new multi-year narrative arc known as the Fate Saga. A new Developer Insights video also confirmed the name of the expansion’s raid: The Desert Perpetual, which launches on July 19 with Contest Mode enabled. This release will feature a global World First Race, with exclusive belts and in-game recognition awarded to the first fireteam to complete the raid and open the final chest. Additional details about Contest Mode and power requirements are expected in next week’s This Week in Destiny.

As part of pre-launch updates, Brief 002 introduced a new Eliksni enemy type: the Corsair. These aerial combatants use fungal-powered jetpacks and scatter-pistols to execute fast, evasive hit-and-run tactics. Their primary vulnerability is located at the ignition coils of their jetpacks.

The seasonal Artifact, Implement of Curiosity, introduces a wide range of build enhancements, particularly for Solar, Strand, and Stasis subclasses. Strand-specific mods such as Threaded Blast and Tangled Web offer new offensive options, while high-tier Column 5 mods like Radiant Shrapnel and Frigid Glare expand crowd control capabilities. The Artifact also includes Champion countermeasures for Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable enemies. Elemental pickups now provide improved synergy with subclass mechanics, offering players additional customization opportunities in their builds.

Gameplay systems are also receiving significant updates. Armor Mods have been reworked to support a newly introduced Ammo Meter system. Mods related to ammo — such as Finders, Generators, and Scavengers — have been adjusted accordingly, while Scout and Reserves mods are being retired. The Mobility stat is being removed and replaced by Enhanced Athletics, a new mod that delivers versatile movement bonuses. Additionally, Font mods have been rebalanced to prevent overcentralization under the revised Armor 3.0 system.
