The Sims 5 looks like it could be shaping up to be free-to-play according to a report by SimsCommunity.info. In the article, they take a look at a job opening for "Project Rene", aka Sims 5, in which the Head of Marketplace & Monetization would be in charge of "pricing of all content for this free-to-enter game".

EA saw a drastic rise in users when it made the base game for Sims 4 free to everyone, so it would make sense that kicking off a huge franchise like The Sims with a free-to-play, or "free-to-enter" as they put it, offering could be a huge boon for the game and the franchise as a whole.

Of course "free-to-enter" could still mean a lot of things to EA, including just not having a box price but still requiring a monthly subscription on top of live-service style micro-transactions.

For now, we'll just have to wait on official confirmation of what all this means, but The Sims 5 being free-to-enter could end up being a big move for the franchise.
