Whoops! Overwatch 2's Director Accidentally Loaded Unreleased Campaign Map During Twitch Stream
A bit of a slip-up during the "Twitch Makes Overwatch" livestream.
Yesterday's "Twitch Makes Overwatch" livestream, hosted by Game Director Aaron Keller and Art Director Dion Rogers, was a neat community event where players could help them build a new map in real-time. Overall, everything went swimmingly, but there was a hiccup: Keller accidentally uploaded an unreleased campaign map for Overwatch 2 during the stream.
Thanks to a clip by insane_109_ on Twitch, we can show you how this happened and what went down. Joined by Andy Belford from the Blizzard Community team, Keller and Rogers were getting things started by giving viewers a rare look at how some maps have been built from the ground up. Unfortunately, Keller had slipped up a bit when uploading one of those maps, nearly releasing footage of an Overwatch 2 campaign map.
"I don’t even know if I picked the right map because it doesn’t give you the name when you first put it in," Keller mentioned before loading the wrong map. He adds: “Oh I don’t think this is it. Oh my god, I’m glad we’re not streaming this because it’s a campaign map.”
Thanks to the current setup at the time of the clip, no one got a peek at Keller's PC screen, meaning you couldn't even guess what the mysterious map might be. The campaign levels are supposed to be rolling out in 2023, so this is fantastic news for those looking forward to it. But we're all still in the dark on the environments players can expect for the campaign.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
