7 More Multiplayer Games That Failed To Live Up To The Hype

If you haven't seen our first list of 7 Multiplayer Games That Failed To Live Up To The Hype, then you should check it out. After you're finished with that, we've got 7 MORE multiplayer games that didn't live up to the hype for you now. Check out our new list of multiplayer failures then let us know what you think down in the comments.

The Day Before

Talk about a train wreck. The Day Before was once the most wishlisted game on Steam, but alas, the reality was shocking for some as the game finally launched after many delays and controversies to a lackluster reception. Plagiarism in marketing, lies about what type of game it was, and a myriad of other red flags marked this title as doomed for failure. It did not disappoint in the failure department as the company announced its closure four days after The Day Before launched.

Evolve

There was quite a bit of hype surrounding Evolve when it was first announced. The game featured the all-vs-one gameplay commonly seen today in horror survival games like Dead By Daylight but failed to deliver the fun gameplay and balance necessary to make it a success. The game lingered around for a while after the launch hype died down, but could never generate the player base necessary to keep it going.

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

Beta testers told us this one wasn't going to be good, and following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League we found out just how right they were. The game was quite the downgrade from the other Batman Arkham game Rocksteady had produced, both visually and from a gameplay perspective. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League was more worried about how it could charge players more money than it was about making a fun game, and it shows.

Anthem

But the flying looked so cool. Unfortunately, the flying didn't make it to the live game in the same state we initially saw it in during the previews, and the rest of the gameplay was barely passable as content. The Anthem previews made this game look like a Destiny killer for sure, but the only thing it wound up killing was itself.

Marvel's Avengers

Another time when a development studio and/or publisher was more worried about making money instead of a good game, Marvel's Avengers could have and should have been the next big thing in gaming. Instead, it was monetized to death and the gameplay suffered because of it. Some of the leveling story can be pretty decent, but overall the game failed to deliver on too many fronts to make it the long-term success the devs imagined.

Paragon

One word. Fortnite. Sure, Paragon wasn't exactly killing it when it came to player numbers by the time Fortnite's battle royale became a huge success, but Epic Games were still trying to make it a game that MOBA players would enjoy. But then Fortnite blew up and Epic wound up just abandoning Paragon. There have been some fan attempts to revive the game since then, but to this day Paragon remains but a memory for many.

Battleborn

Hero shooters were all the rage back when Battleborn launched, but alas, they couldn't all be successes. Battleborn fell victim to the monster that was Overwatch. Ironically, a Battleborn launch today could potentially do the same thing to Overwatch 2 as players seem quite unhappy with Blizzard's direction for the game. But you rarely get a second chance, unless of course, you're Gigantic, then you get all the chances.

And that's our list. What multiplayer game failure have we overlooked on our two lists? Is there one you wish would make a comeback? Sound off in the comments!
