World of Warplanes has been sitting on the open beta tarmac for a while now, its propeller spinning, patiently watching as other more thunderous Warplanes have taken off into release. Now as World of Warplanes nears its original scheduled release date of September 26, it seems as though its inaugural flight has been delayed.

On the bright side of things, the release date wasn’t set to an unknown date, potentially forever trapping World of Warplanes in some pseudo beta purgatory. The new release date is set for November 12th, a little over six weeks after the original. So what prompted the small setback? In the news post on the official World of Warplanes site Vlad Belozerov, World of Warplanes’ Director of Global Operations mentioned:

“We are committed to releasing a great title and are doing everything to ensure that World of Warplanes gets the final polish we believe the game needs. The extra time will allow the development team to fine-tune the game balance and make sure that every feature is top-notch before launch.”

Any experienced earned in World of Warplanes during the period before the official release will carry over and will be distributed evenly between the pilots of the tier 1 warplanes. Players can also continue collecting tokens to spend on Premium time which applies to both World of Warplanes and World of Tanks accounts.

The real question at this point is will the polish added during these upcoming weeks be enough to enable World of Warplanes to take on the elephant in the room? That elephant being War Thunder. What do you think?

  1. The same thing will happen to WOW as happened to Tank Ace when WOT came out, they were the first company to bring a mmo based in wwII tanks but they delayed the game a lot and wot took advantage and killed Tank Ace, so this looks like its gonna be the same thing with wow, maybe not, i dunno…

    • Tank Ace died because the game was terrible not because WoT came out first.

There’s plenty of examples of video games that did not get killed off because another similar game was released first.

WoWP will probably be successful irregardless of it’s inferiority to WT, simply because WoT players will play that game. Wargaming has already said that WoWP will play a role in WoT clan wars which will probably motivate many WoT clans to play WoWP to get whatever advantage it brings to clan wars.

    • lol mate, their little boring camping tank game it was one of the most awarded game in 2010, and it earned every single of those awards it’s a unique game. So before you talk m8 … think .

        • Did u played it ?… I think before we say if the game is good or bad you need to try it out, secondly we all have opinions, and mine is simple, there is company that done an game like world of tanks and I think they produced a hell of a game !! .. and more to come. War Thunder is way better than world of warplanes, yes it is in that I totally agree ! Now if World of Warplanes sucks ? I’m not going to give an opinion just yet … It’s too soon for now, much more content will be coming for it so we need wait and see before we say it sucks. Now we got World of Battleships coming out not far away now and I think once again, my opinion, It’s gonna be like WOT. Like I said … my opinion.

          • I never said WoWarplanes or WoTanks sucked, I was implying that just because a game is popular it doesn’t mean it will appeal to everyone. Although I never appraised them of being good games, I still see why people enjoy them. Who ever said anything your opinion, your talking as if I replied to you saying your opinion is wrong and mine isn’t. You’ve got your opinions on WoTanks and WoWarplanes, and I, and everyone else have their own. Oh and yes, I have played WoWarplanes, very early in the beta I will admit, but I played enough to get a first impression, but again, I never said it was bad, I just said that you shouldn’t judge a game’s quality by the size of it’s community, yes, the size of the community does tell us much about a game, but not quality.
