ArenaNet Addresses Endgame Loot Complaints, Using Math
Fractals fracas fractured fans' faith.
Last week's proposed changes to high-end loot in Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons isn't going over well with the community. Over the weekend, I noticed a number of angry threads on the game's subreddit, and while I didn't think a follow-up article was needed, apparently ArenaNet did. Today's forum post pointed out some of the numbers behind the changes, most significantly how many Mystic Coins players earn, on average, from high-end Fractals, which will no longer grant such awards.
I'm not going to dive too deep into it all, since, even as a GW2 player, I'm a filthy casual (who still has four legendary weapons), this kind of content isn't the sort of thing I do regularly, and I don't have spreadsheets tracking my exact profit and loss from every activity. The gist of what ArenaNet is trying to get across is that you should be able to get similar, or even better, rewards for about the same or perhaps even less -- though different -- effort.
If I can say anything salient though, it's the fear of the unknown that's fueling players' worries, especially since it involves doing a content type that they might not be accustomed to (strikes) versus one they are (Fractals). That's something that will only be alleviated once players get their hands on the new content and find out what it's like to have to do things the new way. If that doesn't work as expected, you can bet that the knives will be out once again.
