Blacklight: Retribution Is Shutting Down On PC March 11 As Hardsuit Labs Moves On To Other Projects
The first line of the Steam community post from Hardsuit Labs sums up the primary message: "All good things must come to an end, and so it is with Blacklight: Retribution." The primary reason for the closure is simple: Hardsuit Labs is working on other projects that "require the full focus of the development teams and leadership."
In other words, there's work to be done and something had to give. In this case, it was Blacklight: Retribution, which started its beta on Nov. 10, 2011, under the auspices of publisher Perfect World Entertainment and developer Zombie Studios, launching fully on April 3, 2012. Hardsuit Labs, under the name Builder Box Games, acquired the game in 2015.
Blacklight: Retribution will shut down on the PC March 11. In the meantime, all items in the shop are free, and account migration has been shut down. The game will remain playable on the PlayStation 4, as there are no servers to maintain, but it will receive no further patches or support. There's no information on the Hardsuit website as to what the next project will be, but if it lasts about seven years, as Blacklight: Retribution did, that wouldn't be too bad.
