Blankos Block Party Hits Early Access, Offers Blankos As NFTs
The block party is almost ready to kick off! Mythical Games' F2P social game Blankos Block Party will have its grand reveal at E3 on June 14, where it plans some "big announcements" that you can view via its various social media channels. That comes on the heels of its early access soft launch, which took place on June 2 and added a bunch of new content to the game.
We haven't talked much about Blankos here, but it follows the similar trend of games like Roblox and Core in that it's a game creation engine with social features that encourage players to make their own experiences and craft their own fun. That's been a booming market in gaming recently, probably due in no small part to Roblox's booming financials during the recent pandemic year.
Another trend that's been getting a lot of people excited recently is cryptocurrency and its cousin, NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Mythical Games is charging headlong into these fields, now allowing players to purchase Blankos (the game's name for skins) and their gear as NFTs with cryptocurrency. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader as to whether that's a good idea or not, but recent news would seem to indicate that it's a dubious choice at best.
