Bungie Reveals Plans To Change How Destiny 2’s Melee Damage Works In The Edge Of Fate
Going forward, melee damage increases will be additive.
Bungie is preparing for another Destiny 2 update. In fact, they intend to offer players a look at what’s next in the F2P shooter during a livestream highlighting The Edge of Fate content update on June 24. But, before that happens, they’ve decided to share some of the details now.
Specifically, the devs wanted to share details about changes coming to melee damage. These changes are highlighted in the latest This Week in Destiny, but can be summed up in that once the update drops on July 15, melee damage increases will be additive. The example given is that two 50% damage increases will be added together for a 100% total. The post notes that this will result in a lower damage ceiling, and most bosses likely won’t ever be one-shot with melee abilities. On the other hand, it allows the devs to buff nearly all the effects that increase melee damage. It also allows for melee damage-increasing effects to stack in PvP.
The post goes on to note that, as a result of the changes to melee, Glaives are getting a rework, particularly since Glaive melee is underpowered in The Edge of Fate. Full details on how all of this works can be found in the This Week in Destiny post.
