Lineage Entering Free-To-Play In South Korea, Sort Of
Two decades after the game launched, NCSoft is finally making Lineage free-to-play (-ish?) -- at least in South Korea. The company announced the transition will take place on May 2 with the top-up system being removed in just two short days on April 24. It should be noted that NCSoft hasn't mentioned free-to-play directly but instead stated that all players will be able to get into the game without a monthly subscription voucher.
The announcement -- as translated by MMO Culture -- notes that players with outstanding purchases will receive refunds. The post does not go into more detail on that point, although those whom the notice was intended for will obviously be able to determine if there are any restrictions regarding the refunds.
In addition to announcing the free-to-play change, NCSoft apparently teased a new item that increases XP and drop rate by 100% for a month. No mention of the cost of this item has been made as of yet.
