Lost Ark September Team Update Reveals Just How Massive A Job Localization Is
More than 4,000 characters require voice overs in multiple languages.
If you’ve been thinking that not a lot has been going on with Lost Ark lately, besides being delayed of course, what with the lack of general news, you’d be wrong. The game’s dev team has been hard at work on all that background stuff that makes games work – like localization and infrastructure. Just to keep players up on what’s been going on, the team published a post with details on some of the stuff that’s been happening in the office and it seems a large portion of their time has been dedicated to those two topics, along with testing and adding the Striker Class to the most recent version of the game.
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to localize a game like Lost Ark, it’s apparently a lot. According to the post, the game has enough dialogue to equal all the words from the Song of Ice and Fire series twice, which needs to be translated from Korean to English and then to French, German, and Spanish. The game also boasts around 4,500 characters that require voice-over work – again, translated into four different languages. Oh, yes, and that doesn’t take into account localizing the game’s systems.
Infrastructure-wise, they’ve been working on all the greatest hits, such as working to keep latency down in the new regions. Unfortunately, this requires extra work as they’re having to use multiple servers in each region and that just generally makes setting everything up a bit more complicated.
Of course, there is testing, and according to the post, they’ve tested over 30 full game builds and addressed over 440 bugs and other issues specific to the western version of the game. So, a lot has apparently been happening behind the scenes.
