Rift Character Restore

If you’re like me, you haven’t been in Rift in… forever. And there’s a pretty good chance that if you tried to go log back in, your character might have been on a server that’s been closed, meaning you aren’t able to access them. So, if you wanted to go back, you’d be stuck making a new character. That kind of thing is really only fun for a specific kind of player. So the end result is that lots of players who might have returned to the free-to-play MMORPG have elected not to.

No. I’m not talking about those of you who just don’t want to play the game anymore.

If you happen to be one of the folks who’d like to go back and have access to your old character – or you’re currently playing on a different character but would still like the old one back, then we have good news for you. (As near as I can tell, this is real news, not April Fool’s news.) Gamigo announced today that players can request that their characters on closed servers be restored.

Specifically, if your character was left on the North American server, Seastone, Hailol, or Faeblight, or the European server Bloodiron, you can contact customer support to have them restored. You just need to have the email address associated with the account on hand. Also, use the subject line “Closed Shard Restoration”. The devs also request that you only submit one ticket for the account. Obviously, having multiple tickets for these accounts will make it difficult to go through them all.

As for what you can do with the character once it’s restored, you’ll be able to transfer it to an open shard in the same region. You will not have access to things like unread mail, auctions, the guild, or the shard vault. Full details can be found in the announcement on the Rift site.
