NetEase Games' New Game Studio Is 100% Remote, Headed By Ghostcrawler, And Working On An MMO
Fantastic Pixel Castle will be directed by Greg Street, who had significant involvement with World of Warcraft and the League of Legends MMO.
Welcome to the industry, Fantastic Pixel Castle.
NetEase Games announced a new game development studio today and Fantastic Pixel Castle’s inaugural project is a AAA MMO codenamed "Ghost," which is set in a novel fantasy universe.
A part of this project (and leading it for that matter) is Greg Street, who was previously the lead systems designer at Blizzard Entertainment for World of Warcraft as well as the executive producer for the League of Legends MMO at Riot Games. The founding team also comprises individuals that worked on World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Guild Wars 2, Fortnite, Overwatch, and Valorant.
"With Fantastic Pixel Castle and Ghost, we want to demonstrate our commitment to open communication and development in front of players," said Street. "MMOs are arguably one of the most challenging genres of games to make, but we have some big advantages.”
“We are a fully remote studio, allowing us to hire the best game developers globally, and we plan to stay small, so that we can iterate on our design quickly,” he continued. “We also want to show the game early and often to make sure we are on the right track to incorporate constant community feedback.
“The reason this is possible is because in NetEase Games, we have a strategic partner that understands our vision, and that is giving us the creative autonomy, resources and support to be successful,” Street concluded.
Next week the team will host a stream to introduce themselves, their game, and talk more about why they're revealing things so early and hoping to work with the community to develop their title. We
ll keep you posted on any timing for that stream when it is announced.
