Path Of Exile 2 Free Weekend Launches With The Third Edict Update
New expansion, free cosmetics, and Twitch Drops await.
Grinding Gear Games is celebrating the launch of Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict with a special Free Weekend campaign running from August 29 through September 1 at 1 PM (PDT). This is the first time players across all platforms — PC, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Epic Games Store — can dive into the free-to-play ARPG without needing a $30 Early Access key. Alongside this event, players can earn exclusive rewards both in-game and through community engagement on Twitch and Discord.
During the Free Weekend, players can unlock unique cosmetics by completing early quests, including the Exile’s Hood, Exile’s Staff, and Exile’s Cloak. Additional rewards are available through Twitch Drops, such as the Clam Stash Skin, Abyssal Helmet, Abyssal Cape, and the Storm of Valako Portal effect. A special Chaos Orb Twitch chat badge will also be available for subscribers, while actual players can unlock the Eye of Prophecy Discord Avatar by just playing 15 minutes during the first week.
The Third Edict expansion itself brings lots of changes to the game. Players can explore Act Four: The Karui Archipelago, a new region featuring more than 16 zones, 100+ new monsters, and 12 challenging bosses. Traditional difficulty levels have been replaced with three interlude story acts, smoothing the progression toward endgame. The new Abyssal League introduces fissures of horror, a new pinnacle boss, and exclusive crafting mechanics. Build diversity expands with the Support Gem rework and the introduction of 40 Lineage Support Gems, while asynchronous trade allows item purchases without requiring sellers to be online.
On top of this, players can expect numerous quality-of-life updates, including a sprint feature, improved crafting, and significant balance adjustments. The endgame has been expanded with 25 new maps, powerful monster variants, and Uber boss encounters.
