SMITE's Community Raises $36,000 for Louisiana Flood Victims
Hi-Rez and the SMITE community are big on charity events. Every year they raise money for a charity of their choice and present it at the SMITE World Championships. Earlier this year they rose to the occasion when one of the professional SMITE players was diagnosed with cancer and helped raise the money needed for treatments. Now, they've raised $36,000 to help those affected by the recent flooding in the Gulf Coast.
On the 25th of August, Hi-Rez announced a special 3 day sale in which players could buy the Independence Chest (featuring 4 very American skins) for 400 gems. For every chest purchased, Hi-Rez intended to donate $2 to one of the charities helping the flood victims in Louisiana. As it turns out, SMITE players are either very generous or just really like 'Murica-themed skins because they bought over 18,000 Independence Chests, raising around $36,000.
Unfortunately, if you didn't get in on the action for this particular fund raising event, it's a bit too late now as it ended on the 28th. However, if you don't care as much about the Chest and just want to help, Hi-Rez suggests visiting Volunteer Louisiana to see what you can do to help.
