Yesterday It Was A Rumor, Today It Is A Fact: Rumbleverse Is Shutting Down
Iron Galaxy says we may not have seen the final form of the Rumble though.
Yesterday we reported on the rumor that Iron Galaxy Studios and Epic Games would be shutting down Rumbleverse, the brawling battle royale that only launched last August. Today that rumor became a fact as the team announced the end is near for the title and the final rumble will take place on February 28th, with servers closing at 10 AM CST that day.
All told, that means the game only lasted almost 7 months once we hit shutdown date.
In a post on the official site, Iron Galaxy thanks players for giving their labor of love a chance to work its way into their rotation of games in the overcrowded battle royale space. Season 2 will be the final season of the game and in an update today the team intends to make the season's battle pass free to all players, shut down the cash shop, and refunds will be issued to any player who wants them. If you spent ANY money in the game, you'll be eligible for a refund but you'll have to wait a bit as the team hasn't posted the FAQ on refunds yet.
Interestingly, in a separate open letter to the community posted on the Iron Galaxy site, the team teases that this shutdown may not be the last we see of the title and they hope players will be willing to return should the "Rumble" reveal its final form in the future. "You may not yet have seen the Rumble in its final form. If we can welcome people back onto the deck of the battle barge again, we hope you’ll be there, laced up and ready to take your rightful place in the cannon."
Get those last matches in now. Streams and other chances to play with the dev team will run all the way up until the end on February 28th.
