Apple Appeals To US Supreme Court To Overturn Antitrust Case Ruling With Epic Games
The company argues that being ordered to stop its anti-steering practices was too harsh.
Apple is not over it.
The company has appealed to the US Supreme Court to overturn the ruling made in the antitrust case with Epic Games. In 2021, a decision was made which stated that Apple should stop its anti-steering practices. These measures prevented developers from directing users to alternative channels for purchases.
Epic Games had sued Apple for anti-competitive practices after Fortnite was removed from the App Store for enabling direct purchases from the developer, bypassing Apple's transaction fees. The US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had upheld the ruling, and now Apple is arguing that the court overreached its authority. Epic Games also has the option to appeal to the Supreme Court.
